The book is translated from the original Russian of St. Tikhon’s Cell Letters (Письма
Келейныя). It contains 123 “letters” written to an “inquirer.” Throughout these letters,
St. Tikhon systematically instructs, reproves, and exhorts this inquirer regarding the path
leading to salvation, covering subjects such as the incarnation, repentance, God’s
attributes, the life of Christ, and others. This is the first time this work has been translated
into the English language.
Saint Tikhon, Bishop of Voronezh and Wonderworker of Zadonsk (1724 – 1783), has often
been called the Chrysostom of the Russian Church for his eloquence in preaching and
teaching.
